PARLIAMENT | RSN Rayer (Harapan-Jelutong) today suggested that the government ban elected representatives from being appointed to GLCs.
Rayer said this when debating amendments to the Companies Act 1965 in the Dewan Rakyat.
"I would like to suggest that all elected representatives are prevented from holding positions in companies, particularly companies that are linked to the government," he said.
Che Abdullah Mat Nawi (PAS-Tumpat) then interjected and questioned whether politicians who lose in the general election should also be prevented from holding positions in GLCs.
He claimed that many such Pakatan Harapan leaders had been appointed to entities related to the federal government in Kelantan.
Rayer clarified that he was only referring to elected representatives but added that this would also include those who have been appointed as senators.
"But if I contest in the general election and lose, then I am not an elected representative," he said.
Earlier, Rayer said the involvement of lawmakers from the previous government in GLCs had led to scandals, citing the examples of 1MDB, Felda and Felcra.
