The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is closely monitoring developments of the alleged rape case involving its citizen who served as a former domestic helper to Perak exco Paul Yong.

The embassy's police attache, Chaidir Zahari told Malaysiakini the 23-year-old complainant is currently placed in a safe house following engagements with Perak police where her report was originally lodged.

"We have cooperated with Perak police.

"They sent the victim to the embassy's safe house in Kuala Lumpur," said Chaidir when contacted today.

He added that a psychologist is also at hand to help the safehouse residents address any emotional issues.

Indonesia's national news agency Antara yesterday reported that a team from the embassy had met with the complainant and Perak police chief Razarudin Husainin in Ipoh.

"During the visit, the victim (complainant) appears to be in good physical condition, although emotionally traumatised," said a representative from Indonesia's foreign ministry, Judha Nugraha, who is in charge of protection of its citizens overseas.

Yong has denied the allegation that he raped his former Indonesian domestic worker.

The Tronoh assemblyperson, who was arrested and released on police bail, also said he was "shocked and baffled" by the accusation.

"I hereby unequivocally and categorically deny the allegation.

"I reiterate that I have never raped or sexually assaulted her," Yong added in a statement.

Asked whether the embassy had raised concerns over Yong's release, Chaidir said the issue was discussed during the meeting with Razarudin, and they were assured that the case will be investigated in a thorough manner.

Razarudin previously said statements were recorded from the 23-year-old complainant, Yong and others, including the exco's family members.

He added that both the complainant and suspect underwent medical examinations while police also conducted a forensic sweep of the exco's residence in Meru, Ipoh, where the alleged rape took place.

The police have classified the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
