Seat allocations: Umno prepared for 50-50 split with PAS

This is according to a source, who claimed the decision was made to keep the two allies from contesting for the same seats, and would be stipulated in the cooperation charter to be signed by both parties on Sept 14.
“Senior Umno leaders have expressed the party’s willingness to allocate an equal number of seats to contest in the 15th general election, where the seats had been contested between Umno and PAS in previous elections.
“However, this does not include seats in Sabah and Sarawak,” the source told Malaysiakini.
The source added that PAS would mostly contest in seats where it holds the best chances to win, particularly those in the East Coast.
“Sarawak would be contested by former BN component parties and PAS. However, in Sabah, PAS would most likely give way to Umno since the state is more ‘synonymous’ with Umno.
“Even if PAS contest, it is not likely to get much support in Sabah,” the source added.
As for the logo to be used in the 15th general election, the source said this is still to be discussed between the leaders of the two parties.
However, the source refused to disclose more details, except to say that PAS would use its own logo in the next general election.
