Latheefa says reopening NFA cases requires digging, tightlipped on S'wak probes

"We will definitely have that, but I can't share right now.
"If it is NFA, I have to dig them up," she told a media conference in Putrajaya this afternoon.
When asked how far back she would go to look for those files, Latheefa said: "The files could be very old."
Pressed whether the files would include cases from Sarawak, Latheefa replied: "No comment."
Last May, the Sarawak governor's office had stated that MACC has exonerated Sarawak governor Taib Mahmud (below) from any wrongdoing, in the wake of the latter being linked by an environmental activist group to an allegedly illegal land-clearing operation just outside Mulu National Park.
Then MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull had said the commission required new witnesses or evidence to reopen its probe on alleged corruption involving Taib.
"Based on our investigations, there was truth in some of the allegations made against Taib.
"But the problem was that he never made any decisions [...] he did not sit in on any of the meetings. Someone else sat in for the meetings.
"There was not one case where he (Taib) chaired a meeting. Somebody else made the decisions," he said.
Last month, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii (below) said he would meet Latheefa to discuss the possibility of opening investigations involving Taib, who was Sarawak's chief minister from 1981 to 2014.
Yii said that the previous 15 MACC investigation papers were closed by former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.
"So my argument is just because he (Gani) decided not to prosecute (Taib), that does not mean there is no basis (to re-investigate).
"... (This is) the same answer I received several times already, these are recycled answers," he said.
Last month, Latheefa said all closed, unresolved and NFA corruption cases would be reviewed.
She said cases that were controversial and related to very important persons (VIPs) were on the high priority list.
