PAS backs Selangor MB to serve a full term

State PAS commissioner Ahmad Yunus Hairi said the opposition did not want to underestimate what was happening in the state as this sort of speculation had led to a change of menteri besar in 2014.

State PAS commissioner Ahmad Yunus Hairi (above) said the opposition did not want to underestimate what was happening in the state as this sort of speculation had led to a change of menteri besar in 2014.
"PAS and Umno are in support of the Selangor menteri besar serving out his full term. We do not want the 'Kajang Move' to take place in Selangor.
He claimed the Selangor palace was also not interested in seeing such a situation evolve either.
"The role of the current government is to look after the welfare of the people, and to bring a halt to the chaotic issues that are distracting them," he told a press conference after a meeting of the Umno and PAS coordination committee.
Yunus also touched on the turmoil during the state assembly last week, where Speaker Ng Suee Lim was said to have adjourned the assembly sitting before a proposed amendment allowing the unilateral conversion of minors to Islam was tabled.
"We have heard issues in the council recently until there is a proposal to amend the Selangor state administration's enactment from sources saying it could not be brought to the council.
"We hope that there will be no replacement (of the MB) because the victims are the people. Elections like the 'Kajang Move' are a waste of the people's money."
"In the event of a transfer of the menteri besar, there will be a commotion. Such polemics will never happen again in Selangor," he said.
In 2014, under the proposed "Kajang Move", PKR assemblyperson Lee Chin Cheh resigned to give PKR President Anwar Ibrahim a chance to contest and become the Selangor menteri besar in place of Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (above).
However, this didn't materialise after Anwar was arraigned in court. His wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail contested in Kajang instead.
Objections to her appointment as menteri besar (which included objections by PAS, then part of Pakatan Rakyat) led to PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali being appointed instead.
Also present at the press conference today was Selangor Umno chairperson Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan.
