Two 'enforcement officers' among seven nabbed for gang robbery

Police hauled up seven individuals, including two 'enforcement officers', after an Indonesian businessperson claimed to have been robbed of SG$413,000 (RM1.24 million) in Kuala Lumpur.

Dang Wangi police chief Mohd Fahmi Visuvanthan confirmed the arrest of five men and two women, aged between 36 and 59, over the incident, which purportedly took place at an apartment unit on Sept 2.

It is learned that the complainant was in the country to negotiate a business deal with two other partners, a Malaysian and a Singaporean.

He had gone to a restaurant with one of the partners, while another partner stayed in the apartment unit with a bag containing the money.

When he returned to the apartment, four uniformed men were in the house. They allegedly seized the money under the pretext of "conducting an investigation."

Fahmi said two of the four were disguised as enforcement officers, adding that the suspects were nabbed between Sept 5 and 7.

"Police will get a remand extension on them tomorrow, as we continue to investigate the case.

"There are two other men still at large and we are in the midst of tracking them," he told Malaysiakini.

It is still unclear if the partners had a role in the robbery.

Several cases involving men in uniform were reported this year.

In May, police nabbed seven of their own and a Bank Negara staffer over a robbery case involving a businessperson in Kuala Lumpur. The complainant was robbed of RM204,000.

In July, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmat confirmed that four officers were arrested for the unlawful release of a Pakistani national convicted of an immigration offence.
