More special select committees formed for better check and balance
Four new special select committees have been formed to serve as a better check-and-balance against the executive, said de facto law minister, Liew Vui Keong.
"The special select committees will serve as a check and balance mechanism against the executive which is meant to simplify and improve the policies of the government.

"The special select committees will serve as a check and balance mechanism against the executive which is meant to simplify and improve the policies of the government.
"They would be more efficient and eventually it will provide more legitimacy to the actions and policies of the government," said Liew after tabling a House Committee report in Parliament today.
The four committees were set up after the House Committee report was approved without debate today.
They are the special select committees on election, on international relations and trade, on human rights and constitutional affairs and on science, innovation and environment.
Liew said the existing special select committee on human rights and gender equality will be renamed to special select committee on gender equality and family development.
"These special select committees will have the power to call in individuals to take their statements and views on anything related to their fields as stated in the terms of reference for the respective committees.
"Any reports or statements produced based on the committees' inquiries has to be tabled to the Dewan Rakyat," he said.
