Police will decide whether to record statements from individuals who wrote the foreword in the controversial comic book "Belt and Road Initiative for Win Winism" after verifying certain facts from academicians and historians.

"We have identified several academicians that we will engage," said Bukit Aman CID chief Huzir Mohamed.

He was asked whether police would question the individuals, including Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, who wrote the foreword as raised by former premier Najib Abdul Razak via his Facebook post on Oct 21.

The others included DAP chairperson Tan Kok Wai, China Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian, singer Auguste Kwan and Sunshine Beacon Limited (HK) president Woo Swee Lian.

Last week, police had recorded a statement from its author, Hew Kuan Yau.

Thus far the police had received 46 reports on the comic books which were distributed in schools nationwide. However, Education Minister Maszlee Malik had ordered the circulation in schools to cease.

The comic, among others, described Malays sympathetic to the ethnic Uyghurs in China, allegedly being forced by Beijing into re-education camps, as "radicals".

Hew had in July 2016 quit DAP after sparking controversy with his comment claiming that the South China Sea belongs to China.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said although Malaysia and China are friends, it is not for Malaysia to promote Beijing's ideology to the children.
