Penang has declared a minimum payment of RM1,000 or half a month's salary as the year-end bonus for the state's civil servants, to be paid out in December.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the bonus payment was to show appreciation to the state's dedicated civil servants.

"Their solid commitment has helped Penang maintain its excellent performance in all sectors," Chow said while presenting Budget 2020 for Penang in the State Legislative Assembly today.

"Taking into account our unending civil servants' contribution and to motivate them, I have approved a special financial aid of a minimum of RM1,000 or half a month's pay," Chow added, while the state assemblypersons gave him their thumbs up.

"It is hoped that this payment will motivate our civil service to provide better services in the coming year," he said.

The bonus payment would amount to RM5.42 million and will benefit 3,996 civil servants.
