TG PIAI POLLS | Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has urged the Election Commission to take action against DAP's Teresa Kok and Bersatu's Karmaine Sardini over alleged inducement of voters.

Taking to his Facebook page, Najib accused Kok of inducing voters with "sebotol sawit" (a bottle of palm oil) while campaigning.

This was in reference to Kok's decision to host an impromptu quiz at a ceramah last night, where sample bottles of palm oil were handed out for those with the correct answers to palm oil-related questions.

As for Karmaine, Najib accused him of handing out SIM cards at a ceramah.

This was in reference to the distribution of free Celcom prepaid SIM cards - which retails at RM10 - in Tenggayun on Nov 8.

Najib said punitive action was necessary, in view of EC chairperson Azhar Azizan Harun's repeated warnings that giving treats and gifts are a violation of the Election Offences Act 1954.

Last night, Kok's impromptu "quiz" was followed by a speech where she hit out at MCA for stringing banners throughout the constituency which read: "The Pakatan Harapan government insults the Chinese and Indian government. Can we sell them palm oil?".

MCA's strategy was based on the fact that many Tanjung Piai voters were in the palm oil industry.

However, Kok's retort was that MCA did not do their homework as exports to India and China have increased this year.

In a Facebook post today, MCA president Wee Ka Siong too attacked Kok and accused her of inducing voters.
