King proud that many women are appointed judges

Federal Court Judge Rohana Yusof was today appointed the new President of the Court of Appeals after receiving the official appointment letter from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Rohana received her letter of appointment at the Istana Negara together with eight other judges, four of whom were women.

Three other Appeals Court judges, namely Zaleha Yusof, Zabariah Mohd Yusof and Hasnah Mohammed Hashim were appointed Federal Court judges while High Court Judge Hadhariah Syed Ismail was appointed Appeals Court judge.

The others appointed as Appeals Court judges were Abu Bakar Jais and Nantha Balan Moorthy, who were both High Court Judges.

Also appointed as High Court judges were Abd Majid Hamzah and Azmi Abdullah, who were both Judicial Commissioners.

Among those who witnessed the ceremony were Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Chief Secretary to the Government Ismail Bakar.

Chief Comptroller of Istana Negara Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said in a statement that Sultan Abdullah also expressed his happiness at the appointment of many women judges which reflected the efforts and sensitiveness of the national administration in featuring women’s involvement in the judiciary.
