A psychiatrist today claimed trial again in the Magistrate’s Court for allegedly insulting his former patient’s modesty by uttering obscenities, last year.

Dr Gurdeep Singh Narain Singh, 42, made the plea after the charge was read to him by an interpreter before Magistrate Nurshahira Abdul Salim.

He was accused to have uttered the obscenities with the intention for it to be heard by a 26-year-old woman at a private hospital in Kota Damansara, near here at 4.30 pm on Feb 12 last year.

Dr Gurdeep Singh was charged under section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of five years or a fine or both, if convicted.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor P Vitiya Monisha offered a RM5,000 bail in one surety, however, the accused, represented by lawyer Mohd Haaziq Pillay, appealed for a minimum bail.

The court then allowed the accused a RM5,000 bail in one surety and set March 4 for mention.

Lawyer Francis Pereira held a watching brief for the victim.

On Oct 18 last year, the accused was charged with the same offence, however, on Jan 13, he was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on a technicality relating to the investigation papers. - Bernama
