Yoursay: Mat Hasan is right, politics must take a backseat

YOURSAY | ‘Mohamad may be from Umno but at least he got it right this time.’

Stop politicking, M'sia is the one that needs a confidence vote - Mat Hasan

Anonymous_2d09ced0: Although Mohamad Hasan (above) is from Umno, he makes more sense than the others.

Pakatan Harapan leaders such as Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar Ibrahim, Azmin Ali, Lim Guan Eng, Lim Kit Siang, Anthony Loke, Tian Chua, and others, please take note.

Complete the transition as soon as possible and start focusing on the economy, bread-and-butter issues and good governance. Stop your politics to the detriment of the nation.

Just a Malaysian: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi played politics to save his skin. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang played politics because he does not know anything else. Mahathir played politics because he is good at it.

We are rudderless and engrossed in the Malays versus Chinese narrative. It’s time to stop all nonsense.

Myviews: Mohamad may be from Umno but for a change, at least he got it right this time. Stop the politicking, PAS, Umno and Bersatu.

The people are sick and tired of all these. Concentrate on good governance in these trying times of poor economy and a global virus epidemic.

Apartheid was practised in South Africa and it failed. So, an all-Malay government will also fail, especially when Malaysia is a multiracial country.

Liew Lean Kut: Well, Mohamad, your party and PAS are doing their best to undermine the stability of the Malaysian government so that they can gain political power.

Indeed, an all-Malay government will not be viable; it will tear the country to pieces.

Appum: At least there is a man from Umno who recognises now what the country needs. Not that he as the solutions, although he has contributed partially to the situation the country is in now.

The Harapan government is now having the opportunity to do the right thing but they are, sadly, led by one who is the greatest contributor to this failure in the past.

If only Mahathir can change himself and gather his courage to change the whole system whereby, we can move and fix all the previous errors.

But as Mohamad recognises, Mahathir plays politics more than leading this nation to a refreshing change and improving the economy. He has put incompetent ministers at the various critical portfolios and worst of all, some of them are only good at playing politics.

Yet we continue to plod on like the old days of Umno and allow the opposition to seek out DAP as a bogeyman to be attacked.

If we look at this government rationally, it is the DAP ministers who have been working hard to initiate new policies and systems. Let us be fair and give praise where praise is due.

Hopefully, all political parties whether they are in the government or opposition will collaborate nationalistically to save this country from further damage.

Let us not blame the past, although the law must continue to act against past wrongdoers; come together and solve the problematic social and economic situation we are now experiencing and with external factors burdening us down further.

First of all, get the right people to be in the right positions and forget about race, religion and political representations. We want and need to see results urgently.

Guglu: How true Mohamad, how true. Since Harapan took over, my investment in unit trusts is reduced by a third. ASB (Amanah Saham Bumiputera) dividends are also getting lower. I received nothing from Tabung Haji. Only Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is giving a respectable dividend.

For how long is this going to continue? I am totally dependent on my savings to survive and it is getting smaller by the day.

Harapan can say what they like about transparency, accountability or kleptocracy. But they are meaningless to me if I am getting poorer. I can only say rubbish, rubbish, rubbish.

Well, @Myviews, PKR is the worst culprit. Umno and PAS can continue politicking because they are in the opposition. I hope PAS and Umno will continue baiting and causing cracks and havoc in Harapan.

Mahathir is an expired product. Harapan is useless. Investors have no confidence in the government of this country. Throw them out. Throw them out.

Clever Voter: Malaysia is already a mediocre nation. With all the country’s resources, we cannot even guarantee every graduate a job. Successive governments have wasted so many resources through corrupt practices or merely poor management.

Politicians can see with their eyes when they visit our neighbours - aside from Singapore, both Vietnam and Thailand are progressing with their respective strengths. Even Indonesia is seriously having the right people to drive change.

Our politicians’ favourite topic is who's taking over or who's being toppled. Both Umno and PAS would not be credible opposition if Harapan did the right thing. Instead, Harapan’s attempt to copy their behaviour when trying to win votes has backfired.

The government should be championing IR 4.0 (Fourth Industrial Revolution) instead of other causes, such as the Palestinian issue. Fix our house first.

Anonymous_2679c6e5: For the first time, all Malaysians fully agree with your statement, Mohamad.

The country is being led by an old man with grudges and bias from the past which is keeping the country from moving forward. He plays politics on both sides as long as he can hold on to power to achieve his aims.

Kawak: Stop politicking, he (Mohamad) advises. That sounds funny. It was the opposition who have been politicking non-stop on race and religion since the last general election. Among the two major opposition parties, PAS is the major culprit.

Some Malaysian political leaders, especially from PAS, are totally unpatriotic although they behave as though they are very pious. In a time when the country is facing financial constraints, due to years of financial abuse and a global coronavirus epidemic, they happily play divisive and toxic politics.

They should put their political differences aside to help the ruling government.

Yet the PAS trio of Hadi, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Takiyuddin Hassan are engrossed in pitting the PM against Anwar.

Apanakdikato: Well said, Mohamad. But the real question is, what are you doing to stop racial and religious polemics within Umno itself? You do not have to look further than that at the moment.
