Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has ousted incumbent Bersatu Masjid Tanah chief Redzuan Md Yusof in division polls yesterday.

According to Berita Harian, the Malacca Bersatu election committee announced at 1.15am that Mas Ermieyati (photo) had bagged 414 votes.

Redzuan, who is also the entrepreneur development minister, received 328 votes, while a third contender A Lokman Abdul Ghani received 228 votes.

Speaking after the results were announced, Mas Ermieyati said she will be organising a team-building retreat.

“God willing I will reorganise the team to strengthen the party so that it promotes racial unity and struggles for mutual benefit," she said.

She is also planning efforts to boost membership and attract more youths and adults to sign up for the party.

Mas Ermieyati had joined Bersatu in Dec 2018 after quitting Umno in July that year.

She quit Umno due to dissatisfaction with the party election results, which saw Ahmad Zahid Hamidi become party president.
