Sg S'gor pollution detected, Klang Valley water cuts expected

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has announced the unscheduled water disruptions in seven districts after odour pollution was detected in Sungai Selangor.

As a result of the pollution, three phases of the Sungai Selangor and Rantau Panjang water treatment plants were shut from 7pm tonight.

This is expected to result in unscheduled water disruptions in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.

The water cuts come as the nationwide partial shutdown order by the federal government is set to come into effect.

Operations in all four treatment plants had to be stopped due to detection of odour pollution at Sungai Selangor raw water source. As at 8pm, the pollution reading was still at 2-tonne level.

“Air Selangor will, from time to time, channel the information to consumers on the areas of water disruption. Consumers are advised to use water sparingly during this time,” Air Selangor statement read.

It added that it has informed Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (Luas) of the matter for further action.

Problem being addressed

In a tweet late tonight, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said that repair work was underway.

"I am listening to a briefing on the development of the process of water supply recovery at the SSP Water Treatment Plant 1.

"Water supply is expected to resume in the near future," he said, stopping short of offering a time frame.

In a later statement, Air Selangor said the treatment plants were operational again at 10.30pm and that only a few areas are still expected to be affected by the water disruptions.
