Amanah president questions authenticity of Hadi's letter to Muslim leaders
Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has questioned the authenticity of a letter purportedly written by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in Arabic to Muslim leaders worldwide.
In a statement, Mohamad said he personally believes that the letter - which attacks Pakatan Harapan and defends Perikatan Nasional - was not written by Hadi, in his capacity as a special envoy to the Middle East.

In a statement, Mohamad said he personally believes that the letter - which attacks Pakatan Harapan and defends Perikatan Nasional - was not written by Hadi, in his capacity as a special envoy to the Middle East.
"This is because he (Hadi) is an ulama who guided me while I was still in PAS.
"Although in 2015 we took a different political path after I left PAS to form Amanah, I never lost my respect towards him as an ulama in PAS for many years," said Mohamad.
Hadi's purported letter dated March 22 had gone viral on social media and Mohamad said he found its content to be a "massive slander" towards the parties mentioned, including the police and armed forces.
As such, he stressed that if the letter was indeed written by Hadi, it would be a "grossly immoral act".
"This is because the letter is loaded with slander, falsehoods and revolting allegations.
"What more when it is being done by an ulama," he stressed.
The letter in Arabic among others alluded to how PAS had met with Dr Mahathir Mohamad shortly after the 14th general elections - purportedly to discuss the status of Muslims in Malaysia - and later opted for peaceful cooperation with the former premier.
Hadi purportedly said that Harapan's victory in 2018 had sided with the non-Muslim majority and that Mahathir had been used to topple former premier Najib Abdul Razak and there were opportunities for foreign powers who were anti-Islam to meddle in the country as was what had supposedly happened in other Arab countries.
The letter also took a swipe at Amanah which it said were "secular liberals" who relied on support from Western embassies for strategies, media, and finances.
This was followed by references to more recent events that unfolded after the “Sheraton Move” which prompted the downfall of Harapan and the rise of Perikatan Nasional.
"I am highly confident that the police and military were in no way involved with the political conspiracy (Sheraton Move) and their names should not have been mentioned (in the letter).
"Therefore, I look forward to a denial from the PAS president on the letter that does little to affect the parties slandered, but has a bigger effect on the writer with the status of an ulama," said Mohamad.
In defending the Perikatan Nasional government, it was stated in the letter that the peaceful transition of power was supported by all parties including the police and armed forces.
Mahathir had in the days after Harapan's downfall indicated plans to challenge Perikatan Nasional's legitimacy through a vote of no confidence in the Dewan Rakyat, although he later admitted to no longer having enough support following the appointment of the new cabinet.
