The government will not be enforcing the 10pm to 6am curfew or inter-district travel restrictions, said Senior Minister (security cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Ismail (photo) said during the conditional movement control order (MCO), inter-state travel is banned. However, limited inter-state travel will be allowed between May 7 and 10.

On whether Malaysians can travel inter-state on public transport, Ismail said the police are still studying the matter.

"We are studying... for instance, to decide how many busses are needed.

"Inter-state travel is still not allowed, so currently the express busses are not operating," said Ismail during his daily press briefing today.

According to Section 4(1) of the May 3 federal gazette issued by Health Minister Dr Adham Baba, Malaysians can travel anywhere within an "infected local area" except to an enhanced MCO area unless they have permission to do so.

This gazette marked the start of the loosening of the MCO to allow the economy to restart.

Businesses which do not involve large gatherings were allowed to resume operations yesterday with conditions.

Ismail said the police, which strictly enforced movement controls during the MCO period, will now focus on enforcement of conditions set on industries.

These conditions include sanitisation, Covid-19 tests for foreign workers and social distancing, among others.

Ismail said enforcement methods will begin with warnings before imposing punitive measures.
