CORONAVIRUS | All government departments, especially service counters, will resume full operations, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

“The cabinet meeting today decided that all government departments, especially service counters, will be fully opened.

“The Road Transport Department counters will be fully operational have begun operating fully today and this will be followed by other government departments.

“All standard operating procedures and regulations set by the government must be followed, including temperature screenings, social distancing and supplying of hand sanitisers,” Ismail said during his daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

The senior minister added that all relevant departments must first be sanitised before resuming operations.

Meanwhile, Ismail reiterated that enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will continue to monitor supplies and prices of basic goods, with more than 20,000 queries and complaints received from March 18 to May 12.

"The ministry yesterday conducted its daily monitoring of 25 supplies at 1,007 premises including traders (787), wholesalers (189) and manufacturers (31).

"Overall, supplies are adequate, easily accessible and enough to meet continuous domestic demand," he said, warning that actions will be taken against unscrupulous attempts by traders to raise prices.

Malaysia has been under the movement control order from March 18 and the current conditional period - which saw the gradual reopening of various sectors - has been extended until June 9.
