CORONAVIRUS | Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob refuted a viral message stating the government has decided to extend the conditional movement control order (MCO) after June 9.
"Yesterday, there was a viral (message) that we supposedly set an extension for the conditional MCO with all sorts of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
"That is fake news. Do not believe it," he said in his daily press briefing on the Covid-19 situation.
The minister urged the public to look for verified information on the SOPs from the National Security Council (NSC) website, where clear guidelines are issued by the government.
He was responding to a question from a reporter on whether interstate travel will be allowed after June 9, which is when the conditional MCO is scheduled to end.
Ismail Sabri said the government will decide on whether there will be an extension for the conditional MCO later, along with all related SOPs, including on interstate travel.
“If we do allow it (interstate travel), then I will announce, but just wait for now,” he added.
On a separate issue, Ismail Sabri noted that no compounds were issued yesterday for violations pertaining to Aidilfitri visits. This is compared to the day before when the police issued 64 compounds.
However, the police did issue compounds to 433 individuals yesterday for various other violations under the conditional MCO.
Meanwhile, 114 individuals were detained with 86 of them remanded while another 28 are out on bail.
Once again, the minister urged everyone to obey the SOPs and guidelines as the public’s cooperation and self-discipline remain very important in the fight against Covid-19.
