Broga Hill, a popular hiking spot for Klang Valley residents, will be off-limits from June 27 onwards because there were too many visitors of late.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the order to prevent visitors to the hill has been issued according to Section 18 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

Noor Hisham said this was one example of non-compliance with guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

"The Health Ministry urges the public to not be complacent and forget the guidelines and new normals.

"We hope that our efforts to break the chain of Covid-19 infections will continue among the people," he said in a statement today.

Today marked the 100th day since the movement control order (MCO) was put in effect, limiting public gatherings and how business was conducted.

Since May 4, Putrajaya has been slowly easing restrictions. The maximum crowd for an indoor event has been limited to 250, on condition that social distancing could be observed.

However, over the past weekend, there have been many photographs showing Malaysians thronging Broga Hill, which involves a 1.7km trek to the peak with an altitude of 400m.

Noor Hisham warned that although some restrictions have been eased, people still can be fined up to RM1,000 for failing to comply with rules meant to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

"Our success in flattening the curve and (therefore) reducing the spread of Covid-19 within the community is the result of all parties, including the public.

"Now, we must ensure the country fully recovers and succeed in undergoing the recovery stage of the MCO. People will need to play a big role and fulfil all our advice and adhere to the guidelines.

"Malaysians must prepare to live in the new normal," he added.
