Mastermind in Datuk Seri's abduction and death was S'gor GE13 candidate

The alleged mastermind of the abduction and death of a "Datuk Seri" was a Selangor state assembly candidate in the 13th general election.

A source confirmed this with Malaysiakini today.

The purported mastermind, who carried a "Datuk" title, was one of seven suspects who were arrested to facilitate investigations into the case.

"He used to be involved in politics. He was a candidate to contest for an assembly seat in Selangor in the 13th general election," the source said.

However, the source did not divulge which party the accused was in and whether he is still active in politics.

It was learned that the mastermind's intention behind the abduction was to get his money back after he invested in the victim's property project which never materialised.

Meanwhile, Harian Metro reported that the suspect worked 'hand in glove' with a lawyer to kidnap the 55-year old victim who was jogging alone at Bandar Sri Damansara on June 10.

They were assisted by another two suspects who disguised themselves as police personnel and asked the victim to follow them in a sports utility vehicle around 10.30am on that day.

They hid him in several locations including in a terrace house in Rawang and demanded S$50 million (RM154 million) from the victim's family.

Earlier today, Selangor police said they were looking for a 26-year-old man known as Sheikh Ismail Sheikh Hassan to facilitate the investigation.

All seven arrested suspects were aged between 20 and 56.

The victim's body was found among shrubs in Rawang at 9am yesterday.
