Contact sports to resume gradually after SOP finalised next week
After considering appeals from contact sports associations, the government has decided to allow the resumption of such sports on a gradual basis, once a standard operating procedure (SOP) is finalised next week.
This comes after the government allowed non-contact sports, training and recreational activities beginning June 15, according to Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

This comes after Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob previously announced the allowance of non-contact sports, training and recreational activities beginning June 15.
"Since then we have listened to the appeals and complaints from contact sports operators including the football association for the reopening of such activities.
"Next week, Youth and Sports Minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican will present to the special ministers meeting a proposal to allow full training in contact sports such as football and combat sports," he said in a briefing from Putrajaya today.
Ismail added that Reezal will also present a proposal for the organising of sports and recreational tournaments in stages for consideration at the meeting.
"The decision to allow sports activities is in line with the advice of the National Security Council (NSC) and the Health Ministry."
Separately, the defence minister advised voters to exercise their rights in the Chini state by-election tomorrow, while adhering to the recovery movement control order (MCO) rules such as social distancing and the wearing of masks.
In response to a question, Ismail clarified that there was no ruling against senior citizens going out, but they have been advised to be careful as they are in the high-risk group for Covid-19.
Aside from that, Ismail (above) said that two people were remanded and 14 others issued compound fines for breaching recovery MCO rules yesterday.
He added that Ops Benteng, from May 1 until yesterday, had nabbed 1,215 undocumented migrants and 215 boat skippers for attempting to illegally enter the country's border, especially along hidden routes.
Ismail said that on July 2, some 572 Malaysians returned home via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and KLIA2 from Indonesia, the UAE, Singapore, Qatar, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea and China.
"Of these, 569 were ordered to undergo home quarantine, while three were taken to the hospital."
