Form Four students at secondary boarding schools will be allowed to return to their hostels come Wednesday, Jul 15.
Students in other forms, meanwhile, will be allowed back to their dormitories from Aug 3.
For primary boarding schools, students in Standard Five and Six will also be allowed to return to their rooms on Jul 15.
This was announced by Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob (above) today following a National Security Council meeting among cabinet ministers.
Among the standard operating procedure (SOP) for boarding schools, including Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) and private boarding schools, are:
1) Only healthy students are allowed to return to boarding houses.
2) Health screening must be done when registering to return to boarding houses.
3) Student beds are to be placed one metre apart from one another. Only the lower bunk of double-decker bunk beds are to be used.
4) One-metre social distancing markers must be provided in rooms such as toilets, bathrooms, washrooms, laundry areas, and pantries to allow students to line up for them accordingly.
5) Rostered meal times are to be provided in dining halls if needed.
6) Body temperature scanners must be provided in boarding houses.
Elaborating, Ismail said dining halls will be allowed to serve either packaged food, individual servings of food, or manned buffets.
“Buffets must be served by the wait staff,” he stressed.
For boarding school students found with Covid-19 symptoms, he said they will be isolated in a sickbay and their parents will be asked to collect them. School authorities will also need to refer to the nearest district health office (PKD) for instructions.
The Health Ministry will be conducting random Covid-19 screenings at boarding schools as a precautionary measure, he added.
