Amanah’s Morib assemblyperson Hasnul Baharuddin has been elected as the Selangor deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly.

This is after Dr Daroyah Alwi, who is the Sementa assemblyperson, resigned as deputy speaker.

Daroyah, the former PKR Women's deputy head, had quit the party in June following the suspension of the then Women's chief Haniza Talha. Haniza has since been sacked from PKR.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari nominated Hasnul and the nomination was supported by Bandar Baru Klang assemblyperson Teng Chang Khim.

Hasnul then took his oath at the Selangor state assembly which commenced sitting today.

Meanwhile, when asked on the decision to accord the deputy speaker post to an Amanah representative instead of PKR, Amirudin said that all Pakatan Harapan representatives had the “same mission”.

“We are all from Harapan. (We have) the same mission to protect Selangor and ensure it is successful and can continue to serve as an example,” he said to reporters during a press conference later.

Daroyah and Haniza were among PKR leaders aligned to former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

The party initiated a disciplinary probe against those known to be aligned with Azmin following the "Sheraton Move" in late February.

Azmin, who once also served as Selangor MB, and several other rogue PKR MPs had left the then ruling coalition to join forces with Bersatu, PAS, Umno, MCA, MIC, GPS and Gabungan Bersatu Sabah.

They formed Perikatan Nasional and succeeded in wresting federal power from Harapan although the Selangor administration remained with the latter.
