Amanah's Serom assemblyperson Faizul Amri Adnan has resigned as Johor party committee member and education committee chairperson, and will not contest the 15th general election for the party.

When contacted, Faizul said he was still an Amanah member but declined to go into detail on why he resigned.

According to his resignation letter sighted by Malaysiakini, Faizul cited a loss of confidence in the state party leadership.

"This resignation is because I have lost trust in the leadership, specifically at the state level, and because of internal party conflicts at various levels which appear to have no end despite various efforts.

"I also wish to state that I am no longer interested in becoming a candidate representing Johor Amanah in the 15th general election," he wrote.

The resignation letter was dated July 11.

In a statement last night, Johor Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan confirmed receiving Faizul's resignation letter.

Aminolhuda said he received the letter via WhatsApp yesterday morning.

"The state Amanah leadership committee will be meeting to determine whether to accept the resignation or otherwise," he said.

Faizul won the Serom seat in 2018 with a 2,324 vote majority in a three-cornered fight against Umno and PAS.
