Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has declared that his party will work with anyone who fights against Perikatan Nasional.
This is after Dr Mahathir Mohamad declared that he, five other MPs and Warisan will stand as an independent third bloc in Parliament.
"Following the announcement that six principled Bersatu MPs led by Mahathir will move as an independent bloc with Warisan that will keep fighting PN, Amanah is willing to work with anyone who fights this backdoor PN government for the sake of the people," he tweeted.
DAP's Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin replied to the Amanah president's statement with the "Ini kalilah!" (This time!) chant.
Previously, Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, was among those who, together with top DAP leaders, reportedly endorsed Warisan president Shafie Apdal to be Pakatan Harapan's choice for prime minister.
This was meant to break the deadlock between Mahathir and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
However, on July 6, the Harapan presidential council decided in a meeting to commit to its earlier decision that Anwar will be the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate.
The council said Anwar has the full mandate from the coalition to continue discussions with all parties to return Harapan to power.
Both Harapan and Mahathir are trying to seize back power from PN after it was ousted in February.
However, it appears that they have yet to fully secure the numbers to stage a countercoup.
DAP and Amanah have argued that Mahathir's support is needed to achieve the necessary support to take back Putrajaya.
