PAS is willing to reconsider its stand on defending all six of its parliamentary seats in Terengganu, party vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (above) said after a meeting with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership.
Ahmad Samsuri, who is the Terengganu menteri besar, said this was because Umno and Bersatu have wishlists for the seats that they want to contest in the 15th general election.
"Let's see first... God willing. Each party has its own wishlist.
"We will see how we want to negotiate the wishlists of who wants to contest where," he said.
Last Saturday, Ahmad Samsuri had said that the six parliamentary seats currently held by PAS Terengganu would be fully defended.
The seats are Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Marang, Kuala Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman.
"I give a commitment, in the context of our Terengganu, we will retain and defend the six parliamentary seats seriously," he had said.
However, at a press conference in Marang, Terengganu, after the PN meeting on the distribution of seats in the state yesterday, Ahmad Samsuri he took a more flexible line.
The PN meeting was also attended by several PAS leaders, including Takiyuddin Hassan (above), Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali as well as Umno representative Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Bersatu man Hamzah Zainuddin.
Ahmad Samsuri explained that the process of discussing seat distributions between the three Malay-led parties was still in its infancy and would continue in a series of other meetings.
In GE14, the three parties were all in separate coalitions and ran against each other in many three-cornered contests,
“We have discussed the framework of what we need to do and related matters.
"But it was a very positive meeting for me," he said.
However, Ahmad Samsuri declined to reveal further details on how the distribution of seats among the parties in the PN coalition would be worked out.
"There is a method that I cannot explain here. The important thing is, when we are done, we will be ready to face the election at any time," he said.
