MACC waiting for AGC instruction on alleged Muhyiddin 'GLC recording'
The MACC has submitted its initial report on complaints against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin over a purported audio recording depicting him stating that Umno MPs could be enticed to switch sides if they were offered ministerships or GLC positions.
Speaking to reporters today, MACC head Azam Baki (above) said that the matter has been referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) and the graft busters were waiting for further instructions.
The MACC has submitted its initial report on complaints against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin over a purported audio recording depicting him stating that Umno MPs could be enticed to switch sides if they were offered ministerships or GLC positions.
Speaking to reporters today, MACC head Azam Baki (above) said that the matter has been referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) and the graft busters were waiting for further instructions.
When asked if Muhyiddin would be called for questioning, Azam did not commit to this.
"It depends on the instructions from the attorney-general. We have conducted investigations.
"For this investigation, the first thing we have to look at is authenticity (of the recording).
"Secondly, if what was (allegedly) said an offence or not," he said.
On May 30, a Facebook page aligned to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad released an audio clip which purportedly depicted Muhyiddin addressing the Bersatu supreme council, which he leads.
A voice, which resembled Muhyiddin's (below), was heard stating enticing Umno MPs to switch camps would weaken Umno.
"If they know a new government is being formed, with Umno in, 'Why don't you (Umno MPs) join in now, why don't you join us now, rather than you join later?'
"I think if we did that, a majority will leave Umno (with just) 10-20 (MPs), with just (former PM) Najib (Abdul Razak) and his people (left behind).
"Especially if there are positions. If not a minister, then chairperson of a GLC," said the voice.
Muhyiddin has yet to refute the authenticity of this audio recording.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh recently attempted to play the audio clip in the Dewan Rakyat but was prevented from doing so.
However, he read out the transcript for it to be recorded in the Hansard.
