One in four under home surveillance ignore self-assessment tool

One in four individuals who were required to undergo home quarantine does not use the home surveillance tool (HSO) as required by the government.

This was based on data obtained from the government's MySejahtera application between July 7 and July 20, said Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (photo, above).

The HSO is a feature in the MySejahtera contact-tracing application. Those undergoing home quarantine after returning from abroad will have to use the feature daily to update their health status.

Noor Hisham said there were 31,674 people who were required to report their health status through the HSO.

Of the 18,416 who have completed their 14-day mandatory quarantine, 10 percent of them do not turn up for mandatory screening on the 13th day.

Noor Hisham's revelation came as the number of active Covid-19 cases and clusters have been increasing over the past two weeks.

A number of new clusters involved people returning from abroad.

There were also increasing reports of individuals returning from abroad who were flouting home quarantine requirements.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said the MySejahtera data also suggested that the number of people using the application to check-in when they enter shops or workplaces was on the downtrend although the number of new registrations was increasing.

"This shows that the adherence to our guidelines is on the decline," he said.

He warned that the number of active Covid-19 cases has doubled over the past two weeks due to complacency among Malaysians.

In view of this, he urged all Malaysians to play their roles in order to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
