The 29-year-old reportedly arrived, in handcuffs, at the Sessions Court in Ipoh this morning and claimed trial before judge Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nasir.
English-daily The Star reported that Sugu was charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for being in possession of a sickle while at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh.
He is alleged to have committed the offence at the parking lot of the hospital at about 6 pm on July 21.
According to the report, Sugu's lawyer Mahinderjit Singh requested for lower bail as Pavithra had retracted her police report made on July 22.
Mahinderjit said the incident was a misunderstanding between the couple, adding that they had two children, aged two and eight.
"The wife can only afford to pay a bail of between RM5,000 and RM10,000," he was quoted as saying.
Fauzi set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and set Aug 17 for mention.
He also ordered Sugu to report to the nearest police station on the first of every month until the case is settled.
The couple, from Sungai Siput, Perak, rose to fame when Pavitra's cooking videos on their YouTube channel gained traction during the movement control order period.
