More Umno leaders have expressed their thoughts on the High Court's verdict on the RM42 million SRC International case which saw former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak sentenced to a 12-year concurrent prison term and slapped with a RM210 million fine.

Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein, who is also Najib's cousin, said he accepted the court's decision with mixed feelings (bercampur baur) and urged everyone to remain calm.

"I accept the court's decision today with mixed feelings.

"Although it's a heavy outcome, I admire Datuk Seri Najib's resilience, patience, and grit in dealing with the trial and its tribulations.

"[..] My advice to all, stay calm, don't be hasty or act based on emotions," said the foreign affairs minister in a statement.

Noting that Najib would go through the appeal process, Hishammuddin said the event would change the dynamics of the party.

"I hope the Umno leadership can bring the party to the right path and to put the party, government, and the country at the utmost priority."

Respect the legal institutions

Umno Supreme Council member Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail described Najib as a former prime minister who was always concerned with people's welfare.

The Pahang menteri besar also advised the public against criticising the legal institutions concerning the verdict.

"As a citizen, I must be an observer with patience and have faith in the country's legal system which is transparent and full of integrity," he said in a Facebook post.

There is hope

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said although the youth wing is sad with what happened to Najib, it was confident that he has the chance to seek justice in the appellate court.

Asyraf said at the same time, the youth wing will move forward with their agenda to take care of the people's welfare while taking the "dark episode" as a lesson.

Dad gave his best to those in need

Meanwhile, Najib's daughter Nooryana Najwa, in her Instagram post, said that his father had done his best for the people in need.

She said this was evident in a clip which showed a woman living with disability venting her frustrations outside of the court complex today, saying that Najib had helped orphanages, people with disabilities as well as single mothers.

Najwa shared the clip in her post and said: "Man might judge you harshly but Allah knows what's in the heart. And Insyallah (God-willing), the Almighty will guide you forward."

Earlier, other Umno leaders including its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Youth information chief Shahril Hamdan, and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had expressed their thoughts on the verdict.

At press time, several other Umno big guns such as vice-president Ismail Sabri, secretary-general Annuar Musa, and Umno supreme council member Tajudin Abdul Rahman have yet to release a public statement on the verdict.
