SOPs disregarded: Health DG ‘saddened’ by lack of self-control at court complex

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has expressed his disappointment at the “lack of self-control” shown by crowds which had gathered at the Kuala Lumpur court complex this morning.
In seeming disregard to standard operating procedures (SOPs) set during the recovery movement control order (MCO) period, thousands had gathered outside the courthouse to await the decision in former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s RM42 million 1MDB-linked SRC International case.
Social distancing measures of over one metre and the use of face masks were seen not being observed, sparking Covid-19 fears among reporters and netizens.
Commenting on the situation, Noor Hisham (below), who has been leading the national health response to the Covid-19 pandemic, pointed out that health officials have reminded the public daily of the SOPs during the health crisis.
“Every day, the Health Ministry has been very clearly reminding Malaysians to follow the SOPs to socially distance by up to one metre, to wear face masks and wash hands frequently.
“It is sad to see this situation where there is no self-control,” he tweeted.
His posting has since been liked over 3,600 times and shared over 5,300 times.
Police at the scene eventually began warning supporters to adhere to the health SOPs.
Najib was today convicted on seven counts - one for abuse of power, three for money laundering and three for criminal breach of trust - pertaining to the funds linked to the former 1MDB subsidiary company.
