"We don't want to take drastic action as we do not want to be seen as provoking.
"That's why we issued them stern reminders," Sentul police chief S Shanmugamoorthy Chinniah told reporters.
He said the crowd, who initially ignored the advice, began to listen to the police after repeated reminders.
They were here to support former premier Najib Abdul Razak on the verdict of his RM42 million SRC International trial.
"We advised them to adhere to the SOP - to wear face masks and observe social distancing. At first, they ignored the police. But after repeated reminders, they began to listen.
"We reminded them to observe the rule because we don't want a new cluster from here," Shanmugamoorthy said.
When asked whether the police would issue compound against certain individuals, he said they would take action against those who refuse to listen to the advice and create havoc.
Meanwhile, PSM secretary-general A Sivarajan questioned whether the police had approved the gathering of Najib's supporters.
"Before this, the police were so efficient in arresting and fining those who failed to issue a notice in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
"But did the organiser of the gathering today do the same?
"If there was an application, it doesn't make sense for the police to approve (the gathering) after witnessing what had happened outside of the complex.
"It's clear they did not follow the SOP such as social distancing and recording body temperature," Sivarajan said in a statement.
It was estimated that around 3,000 supporters were present at the court complex today.
Najib has been found guilty of all seven charges related to the RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
