Bersatu has denied that its Klang division has been disbanded despite the announcement by its division chief Syed Abdillah Syed Abd Aziz on Saturday.
The party’s supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman (above) said no one can announce the dissolution of any Bersatu division or branch that has already been registered with the Registrar of Societies, except upon instruction by the supreme council.
“Klang Bersatu still exists, and alhamdulillah it is now free of instigators, fanatics, and liars,” he said in a statement today.
The Klang Bersatu’s supposed dissolution was part of a wave of defections in Bersatu by supporters of its former chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Abdillah claimed that the division has unanimously decided to join Mahathir’s new party once it has been set up.
Mahathir had announced the new party on Friday, following a court decision earlier that day to strike out his application to challenge Bersatu’s termination of his membership.
The new party is dubbed “Bebas” but has yet to be formally named or registered.
