Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who last week registered a youth-based political party, has revealed that he will also be resuming studies at a university, under a fellowship.
"Alhamdulillah. I received a placing and scholarship from the National University of Singapore for Lee Kuan Yew's Senior Fellowship in Public Service.
"I've been keeping this news to myself from the month of June, but since classes start tomorrow online, why not share the good news with my friends," he said in a Facebook post.
Syed Saddiq previously turned down a scholarship to pursue his Master's degree at Oxford University in the UK, due to his involvement in politics.
"As a young person, I have much to learn to improve my ability to serve.
"I had to skip my Master's at Oxford University twice due to politics. Finally, I get a chance to sharpen my public policy skills while serving fellow Malaysians.
"Thank you for giving me this chance to study while serving Malaysia," he said.
Syed Saddiq also shared a picture of the offer letter on his Facebook.
Syed Saddiq was formerly the Bersatu Youth chief and was expelled from the party for siding with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former Bersatu chairperson who is on a warpath with Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Mahathir and his allies are regrouping under a new Malay-based party called Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) but Syed Saddiq said he will take a different path to set up a youth-based multi-racial party.
His move has not sat well with Mahathir, who said Syed Saddiq's move would split the Malay votes.

On Sept 17, Syed Sadiq registered his new party called the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).
The party has no age limit but aims to promote youth-based policies.
