Court case not for ‘assaulting’ Rafizi, says suspended PKR member

The suspended PKR member Daing Muhammad Reduan Bachok had denied that ongoing court proceedings against him are for allegedly assaulting PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli in 2018.
Instead, he said he is facing charges under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which criminalises “word of gesture intended to insult the modesty of a person”.
“As a matter of responsibility and obedience to the law, I am facing those charges and have pleaded not guilty at the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate’s Court.
“I am still confident in the principles and idealism of PKR’s struggle that was founded by Anwar Ibrahim as PKR president,” he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, the PKR disciplinary board had suspended Daing.
In its suspension letter, it said this is pending the outcome of the court case in Kota Kinabalu, which it said is regarding an alleged assault against Rafizi in November 2018 in Keningau, Sabah.
Daing said he has received the letter and has sent a reply to the disciplinary board to explain the situation and facts of the case.
He added that beginning tomorrow, he will be working with Ampang PKR members to help campaign for PKR’s candidates in the Sabah state election.
