1. BN and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) separately announced that they would not contest the Batu Sapi by-election to avoid the risk of Covid-19 transmission, while the Penang government postponed plans to force four defecting assemblypersons to vacate their seats for similar reasons.

2. Confusion on the eve of the conditional movement control order for Klang led residents to swarm the Klang Selatan district police station, seeking clarification and permission to travel to work.

3. PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said he has been granted an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah next Tuesday to prove he has sufficient support to form a new government, while party sources claim that Anwar has managed to bolster support from Umno MPs.

4. Sabah has sworn in a new speaker, appointed new ministers and assistant ministers to its state cabinet, and appointed new state assemblypersons, including Sabah PAS secretary Aliakbar Gulasan. Bersatu’s Amisah Yassin, who is is currently in quarantine, will be sworn-in as an appointed assemblyperson as well.

5. Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) president Jeffrey Kitingan said Aliakbar’s appointment was “unfortunate” but urged Star members and the public to keep calm.

6. The Bah Puchong cluster had its start when a person in quarantine in Puchong was visited by relatives from Perak, which led to a total of seven people being infected to date. People in mandatory home quarantine are allowed “limited” visitors but must record their details.

7. Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysians must work to flatten the Covid-19 infection curve now, against the large scale transmissions, with the country facing the third wave of cases, including five deaths yesterday.

8. M Indira Gandhi will embark on a 12-day, 350km walk to Putrajaya next month to deliver a letter to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. The content of the letter will be revealed at a press conference today.
