Big uptake as 1 Utama offers free Covid-19 tests for staff, tenants

The mall was shut down after two workers, one each at Mac City Service Centre staff and Parkson Elite, tested positive on Oct 5 and Oct 8, respectively.
Petaling district officer Johary Anuar, who also chairs the district's disaster management committee, had revealed yesterday that two more positive cases involving an employee and a shopper had been detected.
1 Utama is bearing the cost of these tests.
"The 1 Utama management has already started facilitating our own private tests free for mall tenant Staff and our staff today Sunday, Oct 11 and tomorrow, Oct 12, with expenses borne by 1 Utama.
"We had swiftly deployed teams on the floor yesterday on Oct 1 to register tenants.
"It has not been easy for us to close the mall literally overnight and mobilise thousands of staff for tests with the bad weather this morning, but we shall persevere to our best ability to carry this out smoothly," said 1Utama on its Facebook.
1 Utama's management said that it had decided to offer these free tests after they received an update from the Health Ministry that their hotline is swamped with calls from the many Covid-19 cases around the country.
"The Health Ministry has already started contact tracing and engaging with the MySejahtera team to call and blast out SMS details to those who had come into close contact with those who tested positive to attend a free screening at 1 Utama on Oct 14 and 15, arranged by the Petaling Jaya District Health Office," it added.
1 Utama asked customers to note that contact tracing is still a work in progress.
"For those who do not receive a call/SMS but are concerned, the Health Ministry's advice would be for you to test in a private lab," it added.
