In a statement today, Sng said he must be replaced by a Dayak to allow Pakatan Harapan to nominate a Dayak for chief minister.
"I am willing to consider staying back to lead for a little while longer if this idea is acceptable to PKR's national leaders and our coalition partners," Sng said.
This followed the decision yesterday by the Sarawak PKR leadership council to reject Sng's bid to step down.
Sng was appointed as the Sarawak PKR chief shortly after his predecessor Baru Bian - a Dayak - left the party.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim appointed Sng as the head of the party's Sarawak chapter, despite Sng only joining the party in 2018.
Like most parties, the heads of PKR's state chapters are unelected positions. They are in charge of coordinating the party's division heads - who are elected by party members.
Sng noted that the Sarawak PKR leadership council did not object to his proposal to identify a suitable Dayak head to lead them into the next election.
"Our coalition partners too have been informed and are willing to discuss this matter seriously in early January," he said.
Sng said that should Pakatan Harapan win the next state election with a Dayak chief minister candidate, then Sarawak will have its third-ever Dayak chief minister.
He said this was important because Dayaks make up the majority in the state but have been "marginalised in every field and industry".
He said Dayaks have lost their ancestral land and they have also been marginalised in the civil service.
"Dayaks are also the poorest compared to other races. This, to me, is extremely unfair.
"There is no better time than now to raise this issue so as to fulfil the aspiration of those who have been marginalised, so that the issues that affect them the most will be given utmost priority.
"Since GPS has been unable to offer this dream to the Sarawak people, perhaps Harapan can," Sng added.
