The Union of Pos Malaysia Berhad Uniformed Staff Peninsular Malaysia (Upus) has expressed the intention to set up an affiliated union for people engaged in courier services.
Its president Ismail Ali said there are 109 registered courier companies in the country and most of them do not have a union to represent the employees.
“In accordance with Section 10 of the Trade Unions Act, Upus will arrange to have employees in the postal delivery as well as courier services to be represented by unions at their workplaces.
“It is hoped that all employers will support this intention of Upus to help these workers to benefit from justice in terms of human rights,” he said in a statement today.
Upus also expressed regret over the plight of courier workers at a company who went on strike following a cut in their commission, which went viral on social media recently.
