Ex-Miti director to sue former boss Ali Hamsa for constructive dismissal

A senior public servant has signalled his intentions to file a civil suit against former chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa, seeking damages for constructive dismissal from his former boss of six years.

Having recently recovered from Covid-19, Mohd Ezuwan Hassan (above), who was an administrative director at the International Trade and Industry Ministry, said the time has come for him to seek justice.

"After serious consideration, I will be filing a civil suit against Ali Hamsa for constructive dismissal," he added.  

Ezuwan said he has resigned and opted for early retirement in order to focus on the suit, effective 30 days from today.

"Why now? I nearly died because of Covid-19. I was warded at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"God wants to give me a second chance in life, to tell and fight for the truth," Ezuwan told Malaysiakini.

While battling with his life, Ezuwan said he had on Jan 18 texted Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador, via former chief secretary to the government Ismail Bakar, with similar complaints.

Ezuwan said he was serving under Ali from July 2012 until July 2017, before resigning under duress.

He then left to further his studies for two years before rejoining the civil service by serving at Miti.

In his statement, Ezuwan claimed that he was targeted for speaking up against various issues including the 1MDB scandal, third-party interference in integrity issues, favouritism in internal promotions, and others.

Malaysiakini has contacted Ali for comments.

A Miti spokesperson also declined to comment.
