Fahmi Reza detained overnight for alleged sedition
Artist and activist Fahmi Reza was arrested this evening for alleged sedition.
His lawyer Yohendra Nadarajan told Malaysiakini that police arrested him at his home at 7pm before taking him to the Dang Wangi police district headquarters in the capital.

As of 9pm, he was still being questioned and will be detained overnight in the police lockup.
“Remand (hearing) is tomorrow at 10am at the Dang Wangi police station itself,” Yohendra told Malaysiakini when contacted.
According to the lawyer, Fahmi was informed that he was being arrested on a matter related to the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
He was also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Yohendra said some seven police officers had shown up at Fahmi’s residence this evening and caused damage to his front door (above) during the arrest
“When I arrived police had already broken open the door and arrested him,” he said.
Fahmi did not want to open the door until he had arrived, Yohendra explained.
Fahmi had recently created a series of satirical works over the #DengkiKe issue relating to the queen.
When contacted, Dang Wang OCPD Mohamad Zainal Abdullah confirmed Fahmi was being held at the district police headquarters adding the investigation was being conducted by Bukit Aman.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Huzir Mohamed told Malaysiakini he had no knowledge of his officers causing damage to Fahmi’s front door.
“I don’t know yet. I have not received any information yet,” he said when contacted.
