When contacted, Mara chairperson Azizah Mohd Dun (above), who is also the Beaufort MP, told Malaysiakini that a statement would be issued soon.
Some students have claimed that they have been subjected to spot checks on whether they are menstruating when they were studying at boarding schools operated by Mara.
Mara is an agency tasked with rural development.
The once-taboo topic was widely discussed on Twitter in recent weeks. Many victims described the experience as humiliating and traumatising.

This elicited very strong and negative reactions from female policymakers. Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun said that the practice should never happen again.
Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said initial investigations were made but so far there was no indication that such a practice exists.
Malaysiakini has since provided Radzi with a list of 15 schools that allegedly conducted such a practice, based on complaints received from the affected women.
