Agong sees four political leaders on second day of meets

On the second day, a number of senior politicians are scheduled to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at the Istana Negara.

Yesterday, the Agong met with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin as part of a weekly pre-cabinet meeting before then holding audiences with opposition leaders Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Guan Eng and Mohamad Sabu.

It is understood that the Covid-19 pandemic situation and the ending of the emergency are among the issues expected to be discussed at the meetings.

Mahathir proposed NOC idea to King

4.30pm: Langkawi MP Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he proposed the idea of establishing a National Operations Council (NOC) during his audience with the Agong earlier today.

He reveals so during an online press conference about the meeting.

The former prime minister opines that such a council - known in Malay as Majlis Gerakan Negara (Mageran) - would be able to address the present political instability.

He offers to serve on such a council if it is established but is sceptical about his chances.


Warisan leader exits the palace

4.20pm: A grey Range Rover belonging to Warisan president Shafie Apdal leaves the palace.

The car drives off accompanied by two police outriders.

He does not stop to address the media.
