Two DAP opposition leaders in Selangor promise to pile more pressure on embattled Port Klang state assembly representative Zakaria Md Deros very soon.

The two - Sungai Pinang state assemblyperson Teng Chang Kim ( photo ) and Sekinchan representative Ng Suee Lim - will take up on all controversies surrounding Zakaria at the next Selangor state assembly sitting scheduled for middle of next month.

"The issues will be raised during the Budget 2007 debate," said Teng when contacted today.

Although Teng is under a 30-month suspension from the state assembly since April last year over his refusal to apologise for throwing the Standing Orders into a waste basket, he will nevertheless work with Ng in raising the issue in the House.

Teng said the party's protest against Zakaria's abuse of power will have to be aired through Ng, the sole opposition voice in the House at the moment.

Mansion, satay house

Zakaria has come under intense media spotlight and public criticisms over the construction of a four-storey mansion in Klang, dubbed the 'Istana Zakaria', without the approval of the Klang Municipal Council.

He came under more fire after it was revealed that his son and daughter-in-law were to have been appointed as Klang municipal councillors along with him last Thursday.

The oath-taking ceremony was put off at the last moment by Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo who said that he wanted to review the list of councillors.

Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who has expressed dismay over the controversy, has summoned Zakaria to the palace but the latter failed to attend as he claimed he was ill.

Zakaria, who is also the Klang Umno division chief, nonetheless was spotted by the media yesterday as celebrating a cozy Hari Raya with his family in a chalet at Malacca.

On the media's revelation of Zakaria's presence in Malacca, Teng quipped that: "It looks like he is in exile now."

Meanwhile, Teng disclosed that he has received reliable information on a further alleged malpractice by Zakaria. The DAP man vowed to expose these next week.

"It has been alleged that there was an abuse of power concerning him within the Klang Municipal Council, and this will be the 'third wave' (of criticisms against Zakaria)," said the lawyer-cum-politician.

Apart from the illegal construction of the mansion, Teng in March this year revealed that Zakaria had also constructed an illegal satay house within the vicinity of the mansion.

The Klang municipal council last week confirmed the satay house was illegal.

'Nothing much' to expect

In a related development, Zakaria came under further criticism for not upholding the rule of law and exemplary leadership by ignoring the Sultan Selangor's royal summon.

DAP Selangor publicity chief Lau Weng San said this was against Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's electoral pledge for good governance.

"It also showed that he is a man (who is) too arrogant... too arrogant until as if he was already a ' raja ' (prince) by himself," said Lau in a statement dated yesterday.

He said Zakaria's refusal to attend the royal summon showed that there is "nothing much" one can expect from the Selangor state government in upholding justice and integrity.

Repeated attempts by the media to contact Zakaria have been futile.
