Perlis Bersatu deputy chief and Arau division chief Ameir Hassan has announced his decision to quit the party effective Oct 15, citing the party had died when the Sheraton political coup took place in February 2020.
He said the party has strayed from its original struggle.
His sent the resignation to party president Muhyiddin Yassin via secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.
"I am no longer a Bersatu member. Bersatu has died when the Sheraton Move took place. The original struggle of Bersatu has disappeared due to the greed for power and position under Muhyiddin's leadership," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian yesterday.
"I made this decision because the party's (chapter) I founded in Perlis since September 2016, which I built with all my strength and sacrifice, has strayed far from the original struggle," he said.
"The party has become a tool for those who are greedy for power regardless of the sacrifices of the people who brought Bersatu to the brink of success," he said.
Empty cries
Ameir (above) stated his reasons for quitting the party in his letter to Muhyiddin on Oct 15.
"I was among the first to join Bersatu, with membership number 089, and I am resigning immediately starting on the date stated on the letter," he said in his resignation letter.
"Dignity and integrity have become empty cries. It is like committing fraud to the people who have given so much trust and hope to Bersatu, "he said.
He said he has not decided whether to join another party or retire.
"A warrior will never know disappointment in politics," added Ameir.
