Redzuan's 'announcement' fizzles, says quit claim played up by certain quarters

MALACCA POLLS | Bersatu supreme council member Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof claimed today that rumours surrounding his plans to quit the party had been hyped up by certain quarters.
Redzuan previously lamented that Bersatu has changed and hinted at a major announcement to be made sometime this month.
However, the Alor Gajah MP at a press conference today only denied rumours that he would be leaving the party.
"I would like to deny what the people are saying - I am not with the party or I have plans to quit. All of that is not true.
"It (the rumours) has been hyped by certain parties," said the former minister in the prime minister's department under Muhyiddin Yassin's administration.
"I would like to categorically state that I remain with the Bersatu leadership," he said.
Given his status as Bersatu's sole MP in Malacca, Redzuan said his explanation, made on day two of campaigning for the state elections, was timely after there were claims that he has not been a part of Perikatan Nasional (PN)'s election machinery.
"We (in Alor Gajah) will oversee the Malacca state seats throughout this election," he told reporters at the Alor Gajah Parliament operation room.
"My focus is to ensure candidates under the Alor Gajah Parliament constituency receive all the help needed to ensure they can secure a victory for PN," he said.
Redzuan, who lost in his bid for the Alor Gajah Bersatu chief post to Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin last year, also said the issue of him moving on his own does not arise.
'PN can win three of five seats in Alor Gajah'
Meanwhile, Redzuan said he believes PN can score victories in three of five seats under the Alor Gajah parliamentary constituency, namely Machap Jaya, Asahan, and Rembia.
The other two seats are Gadek and Durian Tunggal.
"I am focused as the person responsible for the Alor Gajah parliamentary constituency, specifically for victory in three seats.
"It will depend on the number of voters who turn out on polling day," he said.
All three seats will see PN in multi-cornered fights against BN, Harapan, and independent candidates.
"We see there were many slim wins in GE14 (14th general election), so if we work together, it can bring a big win to PN," he said.
In a six-cornered contest for Asahan, PN's candidate B Dhanesh from Gerakan will be facing former Malacca chief minister Idris Haron who defected from BN and is being fielded on Harapan's ticket.
BN's Fairul Nizam Roslan from Umno, and three independents - Mohd Noor Salleh, Mohd Akhir Ayob, and Azmar Abdul Hamid are also in the Asahan fight.
In Machap Jaya, Bersatu's associate member Tai Siong is in a five-cornered contest against Harapan's Law Bing Haw from PKR, BN's Ngwe Hee Sem from MCA, and two independents, Azlan Daud and Abdul Aziz Osani Kasim.
Another five-cornered contest is also taking place in Rembia between PN's Zamzuri Arifin from Bersatu against incumbent Muhammad Jailani Khamis who won his seat under Harapan but is now fielded on a BN ticket, Harapan's Zamri Pakiri from PKR, and two Independents, K Murali and Sabarudin Kudus.
