The permission for Community Development Department (Kemas) staff to be involved in politics does not pose any issues, as it had been the practice before.
Rural Development Minister Mahdzir Khalid (above) said this was because Kemas teachers and supervisors were not from the ‘DG’ grade category, compared to teachers under the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), who have a staffing structure that involves positions at the management level.
"Actually, from the beginning, teachers can be involved in politics... in the Pakatan Harapan era, they (Harapan) issued a circular to stop (teachers from being involved in politics). Whoever held (a political) office would have action taken against them, whereas before that, there was no such restriction," Mahdzir said in a statement issued in Gua Musang yesterday.
On Saturday (Jan 22), Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob informed that school teachers, as well as Kemas staff nationwide, were allowed to engage in politics with immediate effect.
