From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 44.4 percent or five died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.
Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 972 deaths per one million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.
The reported deaths were in Sabah (5), Johor (4), Kelantan (1) and Pahang (1).
No new deaths were reported in Kedah, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak, Selangor, Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.
An average of 12 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 13, indicating an uptrend.
To date, 522 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.
As of yesterday, there were 155,673 active Covid-19 cases. This is an increase of 123.8 percent from the 69,572 active infections a week ago.
Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has increased by 283.8 percent from 40,558.
From the 21,072 new cases yesterday, a total of 407 of them could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.
From the cluster-linked cases, 338 (83 percent) were from education institutions while 43 (10.6 percent) were from workplaces.
The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to high-risk groups such as old folks homes (24 - 5.9 percent), religious events (1 - 0.2 percent) and community transmissions (1 - 0.2 percent).
