Kit Siang: Extra week of campaigning would have given Najib a 'slap'

JOHOR POLLS | After conceding that DAP lost four seats in the Johor election, DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang launched a broadside against his favourite target – former premier Najib Abdul Razak.
He claimed that DAP and Pakatan Harapan would have won more seats and denied BN a two-thirds majority if there was an additional week of campaigning.
“This would have been a slap in the face for Najib,” Lim (above) stressed.
The extra week, he said, would have allowed DAP and Harapan to convince voters “not to allow a kleptocrat to return as prime minister”.
“An extra week would have made all the difference,” he told the media at the Harapan tallying centre in Senai.
Meanwhile, Lim also congratulated Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong for winning the Perling seat and thanked him for his leadership during a difficult period.
The veteran politician also lauded the party's candidate for Yong Peng, Alan Tee Boon Tsong, for volunteering to contest in a “dangerous seat”.
‘Great loss’
Earlier, MCA declared victory in Yong Peng, which was controlled by DAP for two terms.
DAP had also lost the seats of Paloh, Bekok and Pekan Nanas to its traditional political nemesis, MCA.
Describing the defeats as a “great loss”, Lim, however, pointed out that DAP managed to retain 10 seats.
He was confident that the party would not have lost the four seats if there was an extra week of campaigning.
With DAP holding on to 10 seats, Lim said it reaffirmed that Johoreans, on behalf of Malaysians, want to see change despite the “false news and fake propaganda” surrounding Harapan's 22 months in power at the federal level.
“I think the truth is getting across.
“I think it is important that the Johor election should be a warning to all those who think the people of Johor and Malaysia would succumb to propaganda or those who underestimate the determination and support for change,” he added.
